Enrolling in a Rehabilitation Center

The decision to enroll a family member in a drug rehabilitation program is not an easy decision. It is important that everyone in the family understands the situation and that placing a family member in the rehab center is the best course of action. To determine if it is necessary to enroll the a family member in an addicts' rehabilitation center, here are some points to consider:

The drug dependent finds it difficult to stop on his own.

At times that the drug dependent is aware of his drug problem, he promises himself or his family members that he would stop taking drugs. He may have succeeded quiting, but it only lasts for a few days. After that, he relapses into his addiction. The relapse may be due to exposure to temptations to take drugs, social problems or the inability to manage the withdrawal symptoms.

The family member denies his addiction or becomesdefensive when confronted about his addiction.

As much as possible, it should be the family who should talk to the drug dependent into taking steps to quit taking drugs. However, there are many times that the drug dependent will deny his addiction, justify his addiction or act defensive about it. When this point is reached, it may be necessary to have a third party and a counselor speak with the person to help him recognize the problem.

The drug dependent has other issues that need to be addressed.

A person needs to be enrolled in a rehabilitation center if there are other physical, emotional, social or psychological problems that need to be addressed. These problems are usually related to the addiction and increases the person's reasons to take drugs.
